1. About these terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Purl AI app (the "App"), provided by Laila Ali, Madrid, Spain ("we", "us", "our"). They apply together with our End User License Agreement and our Privacy Policy. By using the App, you accept these Terms.
2. The App
Purl AI is a crochet and knitting companion. It offers row and stitch counters, a pattern reader, an AI mentor ("Ask Purl"), lessons, a stitch library, calculators, a pattern catalog, project tracking and a yarn stash. Some features are free; others require Purl AI Pro. Features may change over time as we improve the App.
No account is needed to use the App. Your projects and settings are stored on your device.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 14 years old to use the App, or older if the law of your country requires it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only buy Purl AI Pro with the permission of a parent or legal guardian.
4. Purl AI Pro: subscriptions and purchases
- Purl AI Pro is available as an auto-renewing subscription and as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices, billing periods and any free trial are shown in the App before you buy, in your local currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- If a free trial is offered, you will not be charged until it ends. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings (Settings › your name › Subscriptions). Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Payments and refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases ourselves.
- You can restore previous purchases on a new device with the "Restore Purchases" option in the App.
- If Pro ends, everything you have already created stays readable and editable. Pro-only features, such as unlimited projects, unlimited Ask Purl, Pattern Decoder and voice counting, stop working until you subscribe again.
- If we change subscription prices, Apple will notify you in advance as required, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
5. AI features
- "Ask Purl" and the Pattern Decoder give automatically generated answers. They can be wrong, incomplete or unsuitable for your project. Always check important details, such as stitch counts, measurements, gauge and yarn amounts, before relying on them.
- On supported devices, AI answers are generated on your device by Apple Intelligence. On devices without Apple Intelligence, the App uses a built-in offline guide instead. Your questions are not sent to us.
- AI answers are for general crafting guidance only. They are not professional advice of any kind.
- Do not use the AI features to create unlawful, harmful, hateful or infringing content.
6. Your content
You keep all rights to the patterns, photos, notes, projects and other content you add to the App ("Your Content"). Your Content stays on your device, and we do not receive or claim ownership of it.
You are responsible for Your Content. In particular, only import patterns you have the right to use, and respect the copyright of pattern designers. Do not share or distribute other people's paid patterns.
You are responsible for keeping backups. The App offers a backup export; if you delete the App or lose your device without a backup, Your Content may be lost.
7. Content in the App and credits
The pattern catalog and lessons include content from several sources:
- vintage patterns and illustrations in the public domain (for example from Project Gutenberg);
- photos from Wikimedia Commons, used under their individual licenses (public domain, CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA). Credits and license details for each image are available in the App;
- patterns and images from Yarnspirations, used with permission. They remain the property of their owner.
Content provided by third parties remains the property of its respective owners. You may use catalog patterns for your personal crafting. Do not copy or redistribute them outside the App unless their license allows it.
8. Third-party services
The App may let you connect third-party services, such as an optional Ravelry account to browse patterns, or open patterns from websites. These services are provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them or their content. Ravelry and Yarnspirations are trademarks of their respective owners. Purl AI is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Ravelry.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App in violation of any law or the rights of others;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the App, except as allowed by law;
- interfere with the App's operation or security, or try to access it by unauthorized means;
- use the App to infringe intellectual property rights, including pattern copyrights.
10. Intellectual property
The App and its content, including the software, design, logos, text, stitch guides, lessons and illustrations we create, are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You receive only the limited license described in our EULA.
11. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep the App accurate and reliable, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be available, error-free or suitable for every purpose. To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available". Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of data, or loss of profits arising from your use of the App. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the App and Purl AI Pro in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
13. Changes to the App and these Terms
We may update the App and these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the dates above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. If you continue to use the App after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence and may bring a claim in the courts where you live.
